Find a Practitioner

How to find a Reiki practitioner you can trust — and what to look for before you book.

Finding a Reiki practitioner is a little like finding any good therapist: word of mouth, a clear background, and a sense of ease matter more than any single credential.

Where to look

Personal recommendation is often the best starting point — a friend who has had a good experience. Beyond that, look to local wellness or holistic centres, practitioner directories kept by the larger Reiki associations, and, in some countries, hospital or hospice complementary-care programmes. A practitioner’s own website will usually describe their training and approach.

What to look for

Look for someone who can describe their training and lineage clearly, who is upfront that Reiki supports relaxation and well-being rather than curing illness, and who works in a calm, professional way. If you are attending in person, a clean, comfortable space and clear arrangements are good signs.

Questions to ask

It is entirely reasonable to ask a few questions before booking: how long they have practised, what level they have trained to and with whom, what a session involves and how long it lasts, and the cost. A good practitioner will answer openly and without pressure.

Trust your comfort

Above all, notice how you feel. You will be relaxing in someone’s care, so a sense of trust and ease is part of what makes a session good. If anything feels rushed, pushy, or simply not right, it is always fine to look elsewhere.

A GENTLE NOTE

Reiki is unregulated in most places, so standards vary. Be a little wary of anyone promising cures or pressing you toward expensive packages — honest, modest claims are the better sign.
